Are Prices Higher In Birmingham Than In Atlanta?
Why are prices for some services and products so much higher in Birmingham than in Atlanta?

PRICES IN ATLANTA
I traveled. I compared prices. Atlanta vs. Birmingham. In Atlanta everything seems to cost more than in Birmingham. But there are exceptions to the rule.
Some items are basically priced the same. But, housing and cost of living prices are higher there than here.
SOME PRICES ARE HIGHER IN BIRMINGHAM.
Some services cost more here than in Atlanta. For example, some Fire Protection Companies charge more here.
A Fire Protection company can operate with less cost here right? Of course wholesale parts costs are basically the same. This is true no matter where a company is located. But, the cost of labor, rent, and other overhead can be considerably less in Birmingham. So, service prices should cost less here. Right?

PRICING MYSTERY SOLVED.
I looked at one other interesting issue. I looked at an invoice from a fire protection company and saw that they were charging $2 for tags and $2 for tamper seals for each fire extinguisher they inspected. That’s an additional $4 for each fire extinguisher that is inspected. Each and every time of service.
A tag is the little piece of paper that hangs from your fire extinguisher. A tamper seal is that little piece of plastic that holds the pin in place. You will see it when you look at the top of your extinguisher. See sample photo at end of this letter.

IMAGINEN PAYING FOR A HAMBURGER MARKED UP 1500%.
You wouldn’t eat many hamburgers at $750 to $1500 each price would you? Of course not and no restaurant would ever charge that much. The same should go for tags and tamper seals.
WOULD YOU PAY $4 FOR A PLASTIC FORK OR A PAPER TO GO BOX?
Of course you wouldn’t. Wow!! If I charged my customers for tags and safety seals, I would charge a price related to what I pay for them.  But, if I charged an additional $4 per fire extinguisher inspected, I feel that would be taking advantage of you the customer. Marking tags and seals up 1500% over cost.
SOME THINGS ARE CHEAP AND SHOULDN’T BE CHARGED FOR.
Tags and tamper seals cost me pennies. While important and necessary, they are, comparatively cheap. The cost of doing business. Tags are made of paper and tamper seals are little pieces of plastic.
“It doesn’t matter if you are new in business or have been around a long time like me. With the economy the way it is, you and I have to take a closer look or we will be throwing away our hard earned money.”

WOULD YOU PAY $4 FOR A NAPKIN AT A RESTAURANT?
I don’t charge $4 for tags and tamper seals. I give them to my customer free as part of the service. You might think, “Well you probably make up for the price difference somewhere else”. The answer may surprise you. But, the answer is….No, I am proud to say that I absolutely do not. Besides the economy is bad enough without you having to pay for something that I believe should be free with the service. And I want to do business with you for years to come. No gouging here.

PRICING MADE SIMPLE.
I charge $5.50 per fire extinguisher inspection with a minimum service charge. Compare that to what you may be paying now. Some companies charge from $6.60 to $9.95 per extinguisher each and every inspection. Then add their whopping additional $4 per fire extinguisher for tags and seals and service charge. If you do the math, you will see that you may be paying more than double what we charge for the exact same service. You could save hundreds of dollars every time.
DON’T ONLY TAKE MY WORD FOR IT.
Look at your last fire extinguisher inspection bill. Confirm what I am saying is true.
“Most business owners and managers like you and me are too busy to compare costs and save money. We trust that others will treat us fairly but, that is not always the case”

Maybe you’ve been hesitate to change companies. After looking at your bill, you may change your mind. But, I understand your hesitancy,
So, I am going to take more steps besides giving you FREE Fire Extinguisher Tags and Tamper Seals with your fire extinguisher service.  I am going to give you a guarantee.  If for any reason, you have a Fire Marshal complaint related to any service deficiency on service we provide for your company, we will go back do the work for FREE.
We are insured for up to $2,000,000. But,I have never had one insurance claim against my company. Not one. Not any. None related to fire damage or any other claim whatsoever. Not many fire protection companies can truly say that.

THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT OUR QUALITY OF SERVICE.
This may be one of the reasons that so many Birmingham customers have switched to us for their fire extinguisher and other fire protection services.
KNOWING THE ANWSER TO THE FOLLOWING QUESTION CAN SAVE YOU MONEY.
Do you know when your fire extinguishers or kitchen fire system are due for service? I get reports all the time of companies coming in (sometimes a month early) and doing the service. One of your employees may sign. You may never know the fire protection company came out.  Until you get the bill that is (if you see the bill and not your accounts payable). But, you have a choice.

A SIMPLE WAY TO STOP THIS PRACTICE.
Look at your fire extinguisher tags. There are twelve months stamped on the tags. The fire extinguisher service company punches a hole through the tag. You can easily see what month the extinguishers are due service again.  If the fire extinguisher was serviced in October, a hole should be punched through Oct. This is the date of the last service.  That means that the service is due again on the next year on that month per fire code.
RESTAURANTS, CHURCHES, DAY CARES, SCHOOLS, KITCHENS
Kitchen fire suppression system service is due in 6 months after the last date of service per fire code.
“Churches get an extra discount. Being the son of a Baptist Minister, I can relate to the struggles of keeping a church going and costs down.”
MY SUGGESTION
You can put up a small sign near your fire extinguisher that says, “Invoices for service provided without contacting the manager, prior to service will not be paid”
Let your employees know about this. Notify the fire protection company to call you before coming out.
